4-H is a 501(c)(3) Organization
From time to time, potential donors to 4-H programs may ask for documentation of the 4-H program having 501 (c)(3) charitable status as administered by the Internal Revenue Service. Such documentation is readily available from the USDA publication entitled "Tax-Exempt Status of 4-H Organizations Authorized to Use the 4-H Name and Emblem."
Appendix A on page 12 of the publication contains a reprint of a letter to Edwin L. Kirby from the IRS regarding the charitable status of 4-H organizations. Providing a copy of this letter to those who request proof of 501(c)(3) status is generally sufficient documentation.

If you do not have a copy of the publication close at hand, feel free to view and/or print a copy of it by clicking on "Charitable Status" below.
